I’m no lawyer, so this is pretty devoid of big words.
I wrote this stuff- please don’t steal it. Feel free to pass anything you’ve learned along, but I would appreciate a link back to my blog if you do so. Even better, link back to the originating post!
If you’re reading about how to do something technical, and you aren’t familiar, I would highly encourage you to become more familiar if you are uncomfortable. This especially applies to Linux advice. With the growing popularity of Ubuntu, more and more people are being faced with the command line, and typing “sudo” before a command has become second nature for many. If you hose your system because of a typo either you or myself made, I cannot take responsibility for it. When all is said and done it is your responsibility to make sure you understand how and why you are doing what you are doing. If you glean a nugget of advice from this site, you should verify this advice elsewhere. Not only will this help you avoid tragedy in the event of a typo, it’s good practice in general- you never know what kind of shady advice someone out there may be giving.
Having said that, if you DO hose your system (whether due to my mistake or yours), shoot me an email at george@georgegumpert.com, and I’ll do what I can to help you out (even if that advice is simply and unfortunately “Be sure to backup your system regularly so this doesn’t happen again).
